Brian was born in 1922 in Hoylake.  His parents were Francis Harold Foster b1887 in South Shields and Ethel Mickle b1887 in Birkenhead; by 1911 their families had moved to Hoylake, which is no doubt where they met.

Francis was a draughtsman who worked for Hoylake & West Kirby UDC.  The couple got engaged in 1908 and in 1910 Francis emigrated to work in Winnipeg, Canada.  He and Ethel married there in 1912 and had a daughter Kathleen Ada in 1915.  Francis served in the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force and after the war the couple returned to Hoylake where Brian and 2 further children were born: Gordon Harold in 1918 and Ian Reed in 1928.

Very little is known about Brian’s military days except that he was an Apprentice Pilot in the Merchant Marines.  Whilst he and another apprentice were winching in a small boat at Woodside Stage in Birkenhead tragedy struck and Brian was killed instantly.  The Coroner returned a verdict of accidental death, at the time of which Brian was living with his parents at 162 Meols Parade in Hoylake.

Francis died in 1954 and at the time was living at 10 Sandringham Avenue in Hoylake.  Ethel died in Wirral in 1976.
